Lower the voting age

I think the voting age should be lowered from eighteen to sixteen.

Some worry that the youth will make bad decisions while voting www.kuro5hin.org/story/2004/4/7/222553/0462. Can there be bad votes? No absolutely not. No vote can be bad because everyone agree on different issues and ideas. For example; right now the Conservatives are in power, so is this a bad result made of poor choices? No because people who voted for the Conservatives obviously thought they were making a good choice; they agreed with the Conservatives’ ideas. The people who didn’t vote for the Conservatives didn’t agree with their ideas and voted for other parties which they believed was a good choice. So no vote is a bad vote and in this case no one can say that lowering the voting age will be the cause of bad votes. Some people are going to argue that young teenagers lack the maturity to participate in democratic debates www.macleans.ca/education/uniandcollege/lets-lower-the-voting-age-to-16/. I personally ask those people have you seen Question Period recently?

If we let stupid adults vote, why not let smart youth vote www.kuro5hin.org/story/2004/4/7/222553/0462. Some people will say sixteen and seventeen year old shouldn’t vote because they don’t have enough knowledge about Canada history or Canadian politics. Yet there are sixteen and seventeen year old that know more than adults. For example, some adults don’t know the governor general’s name let alone the governor general they can’t even name the opposition party’s leader’s name, but sixteen and seventeen year old can. Yet we let stupid adults vote and not smart youth.

To conclude, the voting age should be lowered from the age of eighteen to the age of sixteen, for two obvious reasons. A reason given for the argument of not lowering the age limit has been, the young will contribute with bad votes, but no votes can be seen as bad. And, an unforgettable argument has been the argument of children not being knowledgeable. But, the argument is refuted by adults of no knowledge having access to a vote. Putting forth all arguments, the age to vote should be lowered.
